The furnace rolling mill, also known as the reversible finishing mill, many people will ask – “What is the difference between a reversing mill and a word difference?”
The two are basically similar, but with one difference: two coils are enclosed in a furnace to feed the mill. One coil is on one side of the inlet and the other is on the outlet side. The coil pulls the material through the mill, so this process is more like pulling than rolling. The coiler allows for additional heat residue and heat consistency on the rolled stock, which in turn improves the uniformity of the entire rolled product. The material being rolled reciprocates through the mill until it reaches the desired thickness, much like a reversing mill. Each time the material changes the rolling direction, it passes through a roll to reduce it to a certain thickness. The temperature at which the material enters and exits the rolls is important to adjust the process parameters, such as the reduced thickness of the rolls per roll, the speed of the rolls, and the number of passes through the mill.
Using the high-speed line scanner MP1501M or MP1502M is an ideal solution. The furnace rolling mill requires a line scanner to measure the temperature of each rolled piece from start to finish. Initially, the customer used a point thermometer to aim at the coil center, but when they were special steel for aerospace/military applications, the customer increased the technical requirements and the specification required to measure the temperature profile of the entire rolled steel surface. The entire process has 11 processes, and each process must record the temperature image of the current area. Special steels are not re-rolled, so proper rolling temperatures are important. Secondly, each special steel coil costs about $100,000. If they do not meet the specifications, the coil can not be reused and rolled again, which will cause a lot of waste. Understanding and controlling the temperature is a key parameter that greatly affects the metallurgical process.
